About Northern Light Yoga
Northern Light Yoga opened in June, 2010, as a dedicated practice space for the traditions associated with the Svaroopa Vidya Ashram lineage. These include yoga, yoga therapy and meditation. We host 4-6 regular classes a week, depending on the time of year, and many special offerings including half-day and weekend workshops and meditation classes. We also offer yoga therapy sessions throughout the week for additional immersion into the healing aspects of the practice.
About Svaroopa®Yoga
Are you looking for a style of yoga that promotes ease in body and mind? A style that is meditative in nature, but still profoundly transformative? Svaroopa®Yoga (pronounced “swah-ROO-pah”) is an accessible style of yoga that is appropriate for all body types and levels of fitness. Familiar poses are modified to dissolve the deepest tensions in the human body. This relieves the spinal compression that blocks our experience of consciousness and creates illness and injury in the body. Regular practice increases strength, stamina and balance, while simultaneously promoting mental clarity and deep relaxation. Precise alignment and liberal propping opens you up to the deeper dimensions of your being, leading to spontaneous experiences of svaroopa, Sanskrit for “the bliss of your own being.”
How do I know if it is right for me?
You probably won't know until you try it, but Svaroopa®Yoga is suitable for beginners, as well as those who have been practicing for many years in other styles, but are looking for a different approach. This style is very accessible and supportive and can be practiced by students who have a wide range of needs, including minor health challenges. If you have major health challenges or are pregnant, please contact Rebecca at 386-8461 or northernlightyoga@gmail.com to discuss your situation before enrolling in a class. Most of the time we can accommodate you, but a conversation in advance is helpful. We regret that we cannot serve individuals who have organ transplants, but we can work with those with joint replacements.
