The Northern Light Center opened in June, 2010, as a dedicated practice space for the traditions associated with the Svaroopa Vidya® Ashram lineage. These include yoga, yoga therapy, meditation. and vichara (or yogic self-inquiry). To learn more about the Ashram, you can visit their website here.
Our building is located on a quiet, rural road, just 3 miles outside the village of Canton. Students often mention that the short drive from the center of town to the studio begins the unwinding process, which then continues in the warm and inviting space. With passive solar design, super-insulation, cork floors, and paperboard countertops, our building showcases a variety of sustainable and environmentally-responsible building technologies. It is also just a really beautiful place to practice, with sunlight streaming through the large windows and a view of an open meadow and forest edge.
We host 4-6 regular classes a week, depending on the time of year, along with many special offerings including half-day and weekend workshops and meditation classes. We also offer yoga therapy sessions throughout the week for additional immersion into the most healing aspects of the practice. You can learn more about yoga therapy by visiting the link "Yoga Therapy" at the left.
Here is what students have to say about their practice space:
"Just walking into the space always makes me feel better. It is such a calming environment which makes it easy to exhale and settle in." -Traci
"It starts as soon as I arrive. I automatically begin to relax and let go, just by walking through the door."
