Yoginis* In Action Monday, January 16, 2017 9:00 am to 12:30 pm
According to the ancient texts, one of the expressed goals of a human life is to perform one's dharma (the responsibilities, callings and purposeful actions that permeate our lives. At this juncture in our collective history, many people feel that their dharma includes standing up more fully for truth, peace, justice and equality. In this workshop, we will begin with an asana (posture) practice that cultivates the warrior spirit, enhancing our capacity for strength, stamina, resilience and equanimity. We will reflect on the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and others, as inspiration for yogic action, and conclude with tea, conversation and an "activist fair" designed to share ideas for taking action in the service of yogic values. Though the workshop is geared towards political action, it will also support any action you find called to take in your life at this time.
* Yogini is the Sanskrit word used to name a female yogi. As most of our students are female, we use it here to reflect our population. However, male yogis are welcome in this workshop as well.
